CALuso is pleased to support a sister-city program between the two big wave surfing communities of Nazaré Portugal and Half Moon Bay (where Mavericks is located),  In addition to big wave surfing, there is a strong Portuguese heritage within the coastside community of Half Moon Bay, reflected in longstanding cultural traditions, such as the annual Holy Ghost Festival, and the two active Portuguese institutions in Half Mooon Bay: the I.D.E.S. Holy Ghost Society (among the oldest in Northern California, founded 1886), and the Portuguese Cultural Center.  CALuso is pleased to promote the cultural significance in establishing and preserving and promoting the Portuguese and surfing communities of Half Moon Bay and Nazaré.
